Regular vacuuming, sweeping and dust mopping will usually keep your hardwood flooring looking good. However, if due to significant wear or damage, refinishing becomes necessary, The Floor Store recommends that you consult a certified professional. One way to locate a professional is to contact the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) at 1-800-835-4624. Always follow manufacturer recommendations and use only approved products when refinishing your floor:
Screening and Recoating: This process abrades the factory finish and restores the top wear layer of the floor’s surface.
Sanding and Refinishing: Sanding and refinishing should only be necessary when extensive damage has been done to a floor and cannot be repaired by screening and recoating. This process removes the entire wear layer down to the bare wood and allows for complete repair and refinishing of the floor.
